Six naxalites of the CPI Maoist group were killed in a major encounter with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Chipurubhatti forests of South Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. Two women activists of the outlawed extremist group were among those killed in the encounter. The encounter killings were being viewed as the fallout of the death of two civilians in the forest villages in Bijapur district on March 25. They were allegedly killed by the Maoists suspecting them to be the police informants. The police launched a massive combing operation in the forest pockets. A deputy commander of the Maoist squad was also among the deceased. The Bijapur Superintendent of Police M Jitender Kumar Yadav and other senior officials of the CRPF reached the spot with reinforcements as the Maoists stepped up their operations in the area following the incident.
