In the U.S., where 538 electoral votes are up for grabs, a candidate needs 270 votes to win. With the Republican Party crossing the majority mark, Donald Trump is poised to become President, and J.D. Vance will take over as Vice President. This is a significant shift from the previous election, where Kamala Harris, a woman of Indian heritage, held the Vice Presidency. This time, Vance’s wife, Usha Chilukuri, has garnered attention due to her Telugu roots, making her a prominent figure in both the U.S. and Andhra Pradesh.

Usha, who comes from a highly educated family, has ancestral ties to Sai Puram village in Uyyuru Mandal, Krishna district, and also has relatives in Visakhapatnam. Notably, Usha’s grandmother, C. Shanthamma, a 96-year-old Physics professor, is a well-respected figure from Visakhapatnam. Shanthamma also served as a Physics professor at Andhra University, and even at her advanced age, she continues to teach children.

The rise of Usha Chilukuri to such prominence through her husband’s political ascent has brought pride to her hometown and to many in Andhra Pradesh. With Telugu roots now connected to one of the highest offices in the U.S., Usha’s name is echoing across India, especially in Andhra Pradesh, where her success story is seen as a symbol of achievement and inspiration.
