Hyderabad: Telangana has emerged as the top liquor consuming state in liquor sales, with daily sales reaching millions of liters. According to a survey by the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) in Delhi, Telangana residents spend an average of Rs 1,623 on liquor, placing the state at the forefront of alcohol consumption in India. Andhra Pradesh follows in second place, with an average expenditure of Rs 1,306 per person on liquor.
The survey also revealed that in Punjab, individuals spend Rs 1,245 on liquor, while in Chhattisgarh, the expenditure is Rs 1,227 per person. In contrast, states like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, and Madhya Pradesh have lower spending on alcohol.
