Giving a major relief to YSR Congress Party lawmaker from the Macherla constituency in Palnadu district, the Andhra Pradesh High Court asked the police not to arrest him until June 5 in the case related to the smashing of an electronic voting machine (EVM) and VVPAT machine inside a polling booth on May 13.
The Election Commission of India, which is firm on maintaining the integrity of the electoral process, has taken serious note of the YSRCP Macherla legislator Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy’s case. The police of both the Telugu States are on the hunt for him. The legislator was caught on camera damaging an electronic voting machine (EVM) at Polling Station No. 202. The police registered a criminal case against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Representation of the People Act, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered the arrest of the accused MLA based on video evidence. Ramakrishna Reddy had allegedly absconded from Macherla and was reportedly staying in Hyderabad. A team of Andhra Pradesh police searched for Ramakrishna Reddy on NH-65 at Sangareddy in Telangana State. They managed to apprehend his gunmen, driver, and a couple of followers from under the Sangareddy Rural police station permits. However, Ramakrishna Reddy himself reportedly fled, leaving his car and team behind. The nabbed individuals were taken to the Central Crime Station in Kandi, close to NH-65 in the district. The police also visited a guest house in Isnapur, about 10 km away, as they received information that the MLA was. But they drew a blank in their searches.
