Barely a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office for his third consecutive term, India has announced plans to rename 30 locations in Tibet as a countermeasure to China’s renaming of places in Arunachal Pradesh. The Indian government’s decision is seen as a response to China’s territorial claims and is part of an ongoing information warfare strategy. The new names will be based on ancient names in Indian languages and are expected to be released soon. This move could potentially escalate tensions between the two countries.

The Indian government has not yet released the specific names of the 30 locations in Tibet that are set to be renamed. The names are being chosen based on historical significance and ties to the Tibetan region, and they will be officially published by the Indian Army along with updated maps along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Once the names are made public, they will include various geographic features such as residential areas, mountains, rivers, a lake, and a mountain pass. The renaming is part of India’s response to China’s renaming of places in Arunachal Pradesh and is seen as a move to assert India’s territorial claims.
