Adoption is a deeply emotional journey filled with joy. But often, such stories end up in heartbreaking situations. Birthmothers, adoptive families, and the children involved- all of them experience unique perspectives and challenges. No matter whichever way a family managed to get a child in adoption and started parenting, the circumstances that forced it to part with the baby would leave it shattered. As many as 16 families went through this ordeal in Hyderabad.

The Rachakonda Police Commissionerate in Hyderabad busted an inter-state child trafficking racket and rescued 16 of the 60 babies sold by a gang involved in this heinous trade. The infants were moved to Sishuvihar fpr special care. The gang was ‘buying’ infants from poor and homeless individuals in Delhi and Pune. The kids were sold to childless couples in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The price for each baby ranged from Rs 1.8 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh. The alleged kingpin of the gang has been identified as Bandari Hari Hara Chethan, a security guard working in Ghatkesar, on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The operation has helped bring the traffickers to justice. But the stepmothers who had nurtured the children and developed an emotional bond with them are finding it hard to part with the cute babies. Even the police at the forefront of the operation were visibly touched by their agony.
