Godavari, India’s second longest river is currently in spate due to heavy rains. The flood level has been rising alarmingly, prompting officials to issue high alerts in different districts in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh State. In Telangana’s Bhadrachalam, the river has crossed the second warning level of 48 feet. Second warning was issued at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dhowleshwaram in Andhra Pradesh. Over 10,00,000 cusecs of flood water were being let off into Bay of Bengal lifting the flood gates of the barrage.

Godavari is the second longest river after Ganga in the Indian sub-continent. Originating at Nasik in Maharashtra, the river flows east for 1,465 kilometres draining the states of Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
