Bastar, Sept 3: In a major operation, ten Naxalites of the CPI-Maoist group were killed in an intense encounter with police forces in the dense forests of South Bastar on Tuesday. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was conducting a combing operation in the Purangel forest pocket when they engaged in a fierce gunfight with armed Maoist squads.
As the exchange of fire subsided, the police discovered the bodies of ten Naxalites at the scene. However, a majority of the Maoists managed to escape into the surrounding forests. This encounter marks a substantial blow to the CPI-Maoist, which has established a stronghold in the Bastar region, particularly in the Dantewada and Bijapur districts.
This year alone, more than 100 Naxalites have been killed in multiple encounters, dealing a severe setback to the insurgent group. The ongoing operations by security forces aim to dismantle the Maoist network and restore peace in the affected areas.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and further operations are expected as part of the ongoing efforts to curb Naxalite activities in the region.
