Jhansi: In a heartbreaking incident, ten newborn babies were charred to death in a major fire that engulfed the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday evening. The fire, which is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, broke out around 10:45 PM, leading to a stampede-like situation as doctors and medical staff scrambled to evacuate patients. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as extremely sad and heartbreaking. He has directed the district administration and concerned officials to carry out relief and rescue operations on a war footing and ensure proper treatment for the injured. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and the Principal Secretary for Health have been dispatched to Jhansi to oversee the situation. The fire has left 16 other children injured, who are currently battling for their lives. Efforts are underway to save them, with all available medical facilities and doctors attending to their needs. The Chief Minister has also ordered a detailed investigation into the incident, with a report to be submitted within 12 hours.
