As Cyclone Dana approaches, Andhra Pradesh, Odishan and West Bengal states are gearing up to face the potential impact of this severe weather system. It is likely to make the landfall in between Puri and Bhubaneswar. Odisha administration has asked tourists to leave Puri as low-pressure area set to intensify into cyclone by Oct 23.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the north coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh. The cyclonic storm is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall across many areas, with heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam districts on October 24 and 25.

An IMD meteorologist stated, “The cyclone is very likely to cross the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and the early morning of the next day as a severe cyclonic storm, with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting to 120 kmph. While there will be no major impact on Andhra Pradesh, the north coastal districts will experience squally winds and rainfall.”
The sea condition is forecasted to become rough to very rough starting from the evening of October 23, escalating to high from the evening of October 24 to the forenoon of October 25. Consequently, the IMD has advised fishermen along the Andhra Pradesh coast not to venture into the sea until further notice.
Residents and authorities in the affected districts are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period. In Odisha, the southern districts of Ganjam and Gajapati are also expected to take the brunt of the cyclonic storm and the government of Odisha had already put its official machinery on high alert.
