With heavy inflows being received from the Krishna River catchment spread over Karnataka and Maharashtra, the water level in Srisailam project, lifeline of Telugu states – Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is nearing its gross storage capacity of 215 tmc. Three of its 12 gates were opened releasing over 85,000 cusecs of the flood flow from the project (on July 29). The inflows into the project continued to be over 4.5 lakh cusecs for the fourth day. The outflows from Almatti, Narayanpur and Jurala projects were over 3 lakh cusecs. The flood flow let off from Srisailam will add to the reservoir levels of Nagarjuna Sagar, another joint project of the two States.
