As part of efforts to clamp down on GST frauds, the Congress government has launched a special operation targeting businesses benefited with illegitimate tax refunds.
A case was registered against Somesh Kumar, retired IAS officer and former chief secretary of Telangana and a few other officials as an over Rs 1000 crore fraud in GST refunds was unearthed in Commercial Taxes Department. As part of efforts to clamp down on GST frauds, the Congress government has launched a special operation targeting businesses benefited with illegitimate tax refunds. The Hyderabad Central Crime Station Police booked the case a under Section 108, 109 and 120 (b) of the Income Tax Act also against the additional commissioner and deputy commissioners concerned involved in the fraudulent GST credits. Dozens of companies were allegedly involved in the fraudulent input tax credit claims. Input tax credits, also known as GST credits, allow businesses to deduct the taxes they have incurred on goods and services they purchase.
