CBN out to get his dream project to fruition. Rs 40,000 crore Amaravati ORR (AORR) gets nod from Centre. It was among AP state’s priorities Naidu discussed with the Centre on his visit to New Delhi.

The Amaravati Outer Ring Road (ORR), an ambitious project proposed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA), will be a reality soon. The ORR project, which will be spanning, 189 kilometres, received the in principle nod from the Centre. The Rs 40,000 crore project was among the priorities of the State that were discussed by the Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu with the Union Minister for highways Nitin Gadkari on his recent visit to New Delhi.
The Centre will be funding to the tune of Rs 25000 crore needed for land acquisition and implementation of the eight-lane highway (including the service roads) to come up encircling Amaravati, new capital city of Andhra Pradesh. The highway will be connecting all three major cities- Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali, and other areas that are part of the AP Capital Region Development Authority(APCRDA).The ORR will feature a controlled-access divided highway with a 150-meter right-of-way. It includes three tunnels, nine interchanges, and two bridges over the Krishna River. The project also aligns with APCRDA’s 2050 masterplan for the region. Once finalized, the ORR will significantly enhance connectivity in the region.

Environmental Considerations
When planning large infrastructure projects like the Amaravati Outer Ring Road (ORR), environmental considerations play a crucial role. It needs the mandatory Ecological Impact Assessment (EIA). Experts assess the potential impact on local ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and biodiversity. They consider factors such as deforestation, wetlands, and water bodies along the proposed route. The ORR’s construction and subsequent traffic can affect air quality and noise levels. Measures like green buffers, noise barriers, and emission controls are essential.
The region is Part of the catchment of Krishna River and command area of its projects. It is replete with natural drainage networks. The road’s alignment should avoid disrupting natural drainage patterns and encroaching on water bodies. Proper stormwater management is critical. Balancing infrastructure needs with minimizing land acquisition and displacement is vital. Efforts to compensate affected communities and protect their livelihoods are necessary. Implementing mitigation strategies-such as afforestation, wildlife corridors, and eco-friendly construction practices- are needed to reduce negative impacts.
