Reports that have gone viral in social media claimed that the use of organic rice and ingredients would be stopped forthwith by the TTD. Butthey are not true.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has started using organic rice and other organic ingredients for preparing prasadams two years ago. This initiative is part of their effort to revive a 100-year-old tradition of using organic products for Srivari Naivedyam, Laddu Prasadam, and Anna Prasadam.
The TTD has entered into contracts with farmers engaged in organic farming to ensure a steady supply of these ingredients. Devotees have appreciated the taste and quality of the prasadams made with organic rice, jaggery, pulses, desi cow ghee, and other organic products.
It’s wonderful to see such a revered institution promoting organic farming and traditional practices! But much to the shock of the temple authorities, reports that went viral in social media claimed that the use of organic rice and ingredients would be stopped forthwith by the TTD. They reported that temple authorities are going to use normal rice instead.
The TTD EO J Shamala Rao had a meeting with the priests and the temple authorities and discussed at length the Anna Prasadams and their importance only last week. But there was no decision to stop the use of organic rice and ingredients in preparation of the Annaprasadams, clarified a spokesperson of the shrine.
