“It is with great regret I announce my decision to step away from my role at the consulate and embassy of Afghanistan in India, effective May 5,” declared Zakia Wadak. She has served as Afghan Consul General in Mumbai for two years before taking over as the acting Ambassador of the country in New Delhi this year. In a statement posted on X, she claimed that numerous personal attacks on her  impacted her ability to operate effectively. The Directorate of  Revenue Intelligence (DRI) reportedly seized 25 kgs of gold from her  at Mumbai Airport on April 25. But she was let off without any arrest because of the diplomatic immunity she enjoyed.
