Ten Naxalites of the CPI (Maoist) were killed in a gun battle with the security forces in Tekmeta forests near Abhujmad in south Bastar on Tuesday morning. The Central Reserve Forces conducted a combing operation following a tip off that the Maoists were camping in the jungle.

Nine dead bodies were recovered from the spot after a hour-long exchange of fire. Two women activists were also killed in the operation. Identification of the dead bodies was being done with the help of the people from villages nearby. Police said that a huge quantity of arms, ammunition, and essential items, including AK 47 were seized from the camp of the Maoists.

Meanwhile, the Maoists are facing heavy setbacks in Chhattisgarh. In all, 29 Maoists were shot dead in Kanker district earlier this month. As many as 88 Naxalites have been killed in the operations of the police so far this year. A senior leader of the party, Shankar Rao was among the dead.
